JAMMU: A Division Bench of J&K State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan on Sunday directed the State to complete the construction work of Mini Secretariat building at Mendhar during next budgetary allocation and make it fir for use before the end of 2017.
The Bench was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the state government for restarting the construction work of Mini-Secretariat at Mendhar.
The Court observed that the State released an amount of Rs.700 lakh, out of Rs. 1,404 lakh (total cost of project) and the same has been fully utilised by March, 2015 and main building structure consisting of 49000 sq ft has been completed while as the balance work couldn’t be done due to non-sanction of the remaining amount. The work was allotted to the contractor on 17th December, 2015 and the balance amount has already been demanded from the indenting department.
The Bench directed the State to sanction the funds required to complete the construction of the building during next budgetary allocation, so as to complete the building and make it fit for use. The Court further said that the request for the construction of a public park and parking lot shall also be considered by the competent authority.
