Harshit of KCIS wins inter-school chess trophy

JAMMU: Harshit Gupta of KC International School won the overall championship thereby securing a cash prize of Rs 11,000 in the ongoing Inter School Chess Tournament, organised by All J and K Chess Association at Tiny Tots School Sainik Colony here.
In the super final Harshit won all the matches and drew one to claim the overall championship. Ishita Raina of Tiny Tots School Sainik Colony was given special prize of Chief Arbiter’s choice Rs.1,000 and a gold medal.
Earlier, around 700 players drawn from 20 different educational institutions of the city took part in this competition.
In addition, all the group winners were given Rs 1,000 cash along with gold medals and certificates. The event was played in six different groups of boys’ girls from 1st-4th class, fifth-eighth class and ninth-12th class.
While speaking to the gathering, Raman Bhalla appreciated the initiative of the association to give platform to youth of the State. He also appreciated the efforts of Tiny Tots School for extending a helping hand to the organisers.
In the super final and valedictory function, former Minister, Raman Bhalla was Chief Guest while Deputy Director Protocol, Naseem Javed Choudhary was Guest of Honour. Also present were President of the Association, Atul Kumar Gupta, Taranvir Singh Gujral , Kuljeet Singh Jamwal (Chairman Chess in School Programme Committee Jammu Division) , Vikas Nanda, Raj Kumar, Principal of Tiny Tots School, Dr Vikram Handa, Director Tiny Tots School, Madam Gurpreet Handa, Arun Manhas.
