Govt to take tough action against stone pelters: Dy CM

STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Strongly reacting to the reports of stone pelting on school going children in Shopian district, in which one student received head injuries, Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday said the State government will act tough against stone pelters behind the attack.
Interacting with media persons at his official residence here, Deputy Chief Minister said the coalition government had announced amnesty for first time stone pelters but not for those who indulge in stone pelting on regular basis to disturb peace.
On persistent quizzing, the Deputy Chief Minister said the State government is very clear on this issue.
He said J&K is sensitive state. “We don’t want to provoke a situation or take tough measures against the first time stone pelters. Keeping this in mind the amnesty scheme was announced earlier”, he added.
He however, said, “We have to be responsible while acting against those behind the incident”.
Gupta claimed agents of Pakistan active in Kashmir are desperately trying to disturb the peace.
He said the State government agencies have been directed to take tough measures and ensure safety of school going children.
Gupta also claimed that compared to previous years, the total number of incidents of stone pelting have come down.
He also rubbished reports that BJP has surrendered before the PDP and had no say in governance. Taking a dig at the newly appointed BJP Deputy Chief Minister, National Conference working President and former state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted,”Some one needs to remind the Deputy CM that the amnesty was announced from Delhi by the Union Home Minister on the advice of the interlocutor”.
