Govt provides Rs 34.66 lakh relief to cloudburst victims

UDHAMPUR: District administration, Udhampur, on Saturday provided immediate relief to victims of flashflood and cloudburst in Chenani and Kud by providing assistance for reconstruction of houses and compensation of loss inflicted due to livestock perished and crops damaged. Chairman DDB and Minister for Environment and Forests Choudhary Lal Singh announced an immediate relief provided by district administration to the tune of Rs 34.66 lakh and asked for restoration of developmental works.
A team comprising of Addl DC Angrez Singh Rana, SDM Chenani Devinder Sharma and Tehildar Chenani Rafiq Ahmed provided relief amounting to Rs 34.66 lakh in presence of MLA Chenani Dina Nath Bhagat. MLA Chenani appreciated the prompt action of district administration for reaching out to affected families by providing relief items and compensation in a day’s time. He also thanked MP and Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh for providing an assistance of Rs 10 lakh for immediate relief and restoration works.The compensation include Rs 3.44 lakh on account of damaged houses including 4 houses fully damaged and two partially damaged,; Rs 3.34 lakh to six families for loss of livestock which included six large milch animals, 18 small milch animals and four large drought animals and Rs 27.88 lakh on account of complete damage of crop on 410 hectares of land which belonged to six villages in the Chenani Sub-Division. The relief has been provided directly into accounts of affected families. Meanwhile, loss of Rs 53 lakh has been assessed on account of damages to rural infrastructure in the area.Earlier, DC Udhampur Dr Shahid Iqbal approved the relief assessed by the committee headed by SDM Chenani and deputed the team for further assistance to affected families and provision of relief.
