JAMMU: Referring to various measures introduced to encourage regional languages, State President, Shri Ram Sena, Rajiv Mahajan today said that Dogri dialect has been introduced as one of the compulsory subject from 1st to 12th standard.
In a statement issued today, Rajiv Mahajan said acquaintance of young generations with their respective regional languages is a must as without the basic knowledge of mother tongue the overall development of children is hampered.
“A regional language is a repository of cultural ethos, social values and traditions of a specific area which ensures a dignified identity to an individual,” he said.
“I would be very happy if the government practically implements the decision on ground and start teaching Dogri language as a regular subject in all government schools,” said Rajiv Mahajan.
He regretted that except hollow slogans successive Chief Ministers of the State had done nothing to promote Dogri language in the State.
“The Dogri language was included in the Eighth Schedule after great struggle of the people who worked hard for its promotion and the government must be sincere in its approach to promote Dogri,” he said.
“It is a long pending demand of lovers of Dogri literature that the language should be introduced at all levels,” he said.
He demanded that the government should make Dogri language compulsory from Class 1st to 12th in all private as well as government schools. He said it would definitely help the younger generation to get themselves acquainted with the historical importance of Dogri language. “It is a natural phenomenon worldwide that only those people have excelled in their life who have worked with and spoken their mother tongue. It is the duty of the government to make Dogri a compulsory subject in all educational institutions,” he said.
