SRINAGAR: On the directions of the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali, the Department has started the process for constitution of District Consumer Protection Councils (DCPC) in every district of the State. As per notification issued by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, the DCPC will constitute Deputy Commissioner of the district as Chairman, Chief Medical Officer of the district as Member, Assistant Director Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs as Member Secretary, Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Council as Member, Senior Superintendent of Police (with territorial jurisdiction) as Member, Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology Department of the district as Member, Representative of Panchayat at Block level to be nominated by the Government as Member, Representative of an NGO related to Consumer Affairs to be nominated by the government as Member and representative of the local business establishment to be nominated by the government as Member. In addition MLAs / MLCs will be the special invitees in the meetings of the District Consumer Protection Council.
