POONCH: Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura said that government is committed to provide transparent and accountable administration to the people of the State so that the pace of developmental works is speeded up.
The minister was addressing at a district officers meeting convened to review the overall functioning of Agriculture, Sericulture, Command Area Development (CAD) and Horticulture departments on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council Jehangir Hussain Mir, MLA Poonch, Shah Mohammad Tantray, MLC Yashpaul Sharma, MLC Dr. Shahnaz Ganai, District Development Commissioner, Poonch Malik Haroon, Director Agriculture Jammu S. S. Jamwal, Director Sericulture Dr. Malik Farooq and all district officers of Horticulture, Irrigation, R &B, PMGSY and other departments were present.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner, Poonch gave resume of the activities of different departments and projected for liberal funding under agriculture sector.
It was informed in the meeting that under sericulture sector, the department has produced 16,000 kgs of cocoons and distributed silkworm seed of 650 ounces to 584 farmers and income generated 16 lakhs. It was also informed in the meeting that 66000 mulberry saplings planted under various schemes through the farmers in the district under centrally sponsored. Assistance provided to 300 farmers and the funds amounting to Rs,4,55 lacs allotted under district sector and expenditure incurred Rs.4.54 lakh. The department has four propagation nurseries where 60 to 70 lakh mulberry samples can be raised.
Detailed discussions were held on seed distribution. The Minister directed the concerned for judicious allocation of seeds. He also asked them to ensure timely distribution of seeds.
It was informed in the meeting that more than 200 qtls of hybrid maize were distributed among the farmers of the district during last year. It was also given out that awareness camps were organized by the department to educate farmers about the welfare schemes and technical knowhow.
