Governor reviews flood situation

SRINAGAR: The Governor, N.N. Vohra, who has been receiving reports about the human and economic loss caused by the ravaging floods in the State, reviewed the relief and rescue operations underway in the Jammu and Kashmir regions. As disclosed by a Raj Bhavan spokesman, the Governor discussed the flood damage situation with the Chief Minister and also visited some of the areas which have been submerged by the overflowing Jhelum River.
The Governor appealed to all the volunteers trained by the J and K Red Cross Society, and all able bodied youngmen, to join hands and support the relief measures being carried out by the civil administration.
The Governor also received a detailed report from Lt. Gen K.H. Singh, GOC XVI Corps, about the enormous loss in the Rajouri and Poonch districts but was re-assured to learn that nearly 1000 marooned people had been rescued and taken to relief camps being run by the Army.
