Governor inaugurates All India Inter University Roll Ball Tournament

Governor N.N Vohra and VC JU, Prof R.D Sharma at the inaugural of All India Inter-University Roll Ball Tournament at JU Campus in Jammu on Wednesday.

JAMMU: Hosts University of Jammu outplayed Chandigarh University, Mohali 6-4 in the opening game of All India Inter University Roll Ball (M&W) Tournament, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education of the University at the University ground, here on Wednesday.
Dilpreet Singh and Amritpal Singh scored two goals each for JU while Vikas Mahala remained highest scorer for Mohali with two goals.
In other match, SRM University, Tamil Nadu beat Integral University, Lucknow 8-4. Dhivakar J was top scorer for SRM with six goals while Ayush Asha netted all four goals for Integral University, Lucknow.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Governor N.N Vohra. In all, 47 teams, comprising 23 women and 24 men teams from all over India, are participating in this five-day tournament.
Welcoming the participating teams, Governor observed that sports are extremely important for students, for their balanced personality development and urged all students to take interest in sports.
Governor expressed concern that not enough is being done to promote the sporting culture and extra-curricular activities in our schools, colleges and universities and urged that all educational institutions must develop sports infrastructure to encourage and enable students to play games. He observed that indoor games can be played by students at their convenience, in early morning or late evening. He suggested to Prof. R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, to utilise the available financial resources for developing adequate sports infrastructure and facilities in the university which could be available to the students at any time of their liking.
The tournament started with unfurling of the flag followed by the March Past by the participating teams.
Students of Institute of Music and Fine Arts, University of Jammu, sung two very well composed group songs on the occasion.
Prof. R.D. Sharma. Vice Chancellor of the University presented the welcome address while Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar gave the vote of thanks. Dr. A.S Jasrotia, Director Sports highlighted the features of this tournament.
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical panel of experts including Jyoti, Sunil Thomas, Chandeshwar, Bhuvnesh and Simran.
The next round matches shall be played tomorrow at MA Stadium from 9:00 AM onwards.
