Governor briefed about Pak ceasefire violations


SRINAGAR: Governor, N.N. Vohra has been kept regularly informed by Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen D.S. Hooda, about the ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the RS Pura, Arnia and Ramgarh sectors. The Governor has since been also briefed in detail by Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi, GoC 9 Corps. The Governor has been informed about valuable initiatives taken by the 26 Div and other formations of 9 Corps to provide emergency assistance to the very large number of civilians who have been displaced from their villages which are located in close proximity to the International Border.
The Governor thanked and complimented the Army which has, in concert with the Jammu District Administration, provided assistance to over 4,000 people who have been displaced from their homes in the affected areas. The assistance being provided by the Army to the displaced persons includes shelter and toilet facilities, generators for illumination, food, medical support and other requested supports. The Governor was informed that the displaced persons have been provided shelter in camps established by the civil administration at R.S. Pura, Dablehar, Devigarh, Salehar, Rehal, Ramgarh and Habtal.
At some of the camps the army has provided support and assistance to government school teachers to organise institution for the displaced children.
The Governor specially complimented the GoC 9 Corps for sending out teams of his officers, including nine women officers and four lady doctors, to visit the camps and take particular care of the large number of aged persons, women and children.
Sources in the Raj Bhavan Secretariat disclosed that the Governor shall be personally visiting the relief camps later this week.
