Government retrieving encroached Wakf land: Veeri

SRINAGAR: Minister for R&B, Abdul Rehman Veeri on Monday said that the government is retrieving the encroached Wakf Land and no one would be allowed to grab it. He said the department is obtaining the information from various quarters and is preparing a list of total land, its encroachers and action will be initiated soon.
The minister was intervening during a question raised by Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri in the Legislative Council.
Earlier the Minister of State for Haj and Auqaf, Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi, while replying to the main question, informed that due to status quo order of the High Court no action can be contemplated on any violation except one plot of land at Gole Market Gandhi Nagar which too is sub-judice.
He said no lease has been made by Auqaf Jammu to the said land but the decedents of Mian Lal Din have leased it out of their own.
The minister said that the land was continuously under the possession of Auqaf Islamia Jammu, but was partly encroached. He said in order to remove the encroachments over the said Waqaf land Auqaf Islamia Jammu in a joint operation with Jammu Municipal Corporation removed all the encroachments and fenced the said Waqaf land being presently used as paid parking for vehicles.
The minister said that as per information received from Administrator, Auqaf Islamia, Jammu, the Trial Court in its judgment dated 6th of August, 1970 dismissed the suit of the Auqaf Committee, concerning the Auqaf land commonly known as Gole Market Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The District Judge Jammu in his Judgment dated 28th of February, 1973 upheld the findings of the Trial Court and dismissed the appeal of Auqaf Committee.
