JAMMU: The Induction Ceremony for the new MBBS Batch of 2024 was held on Monday at the auditorium of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, marking the beginning of an exciting journey for the students entering the medical profession.
The ceremony was attended by faculty members, parents, and students, and was organized with a blend of tradition and modern medical values.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Rachna Sabharwal (Professor & Head Biochemistry), setting an encouraging tone for the new students and their parents.
Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal & Dean of GMC Jammu, delivered the inaugural address, where he emphasized that becoming a competent doctor requires more than just the knowledge and skills of medical science. He stressed the importance of good communication, empathy, and ethical practices, which are equally critical in shaping a well-rounded medical professional.
Dr. Ashok Sharma, Incharge Academics, Coordinator of the Medical Education Unit (MEU) and Curriculum Committee (CC), highlighted the significance of the upcoming academic journey and the various programs designed to enrich students’ knowledge and skills.
A key moment of the ceremony was the symbolic White Coat/Apron Wearing and Stethoscope Adorning Ceremony, where the Principal & Dean Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Heads of various departments presented the white coats to the students, marking their official entry into the medical field.
For successful execution of these ceremonies, the New MBBS Students were called on stage as per serial numbers by Dr. Nusrat Jabeen (Professor Anatomy).
This was followed by the Oath Ceremony, conducted by Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, and other head of Departments, during which the students pledged to uphold the values of the medical profession.
The heads of the departments-Dr. Sangeeta Gupta (Anatomy), Dr. Rachna Sabharwal (Biochemistry), Dr. Vanita Sharma (Physiology), and Dr. Rajeev Gupta (Community Medicine)-introduced their respective faculties to the new students.
The hostel rules and regulations were explained by the Chief Provost of the Girls Hostel Dr. Seema Gupta (Professor & Head, Pharmacology).
The Chairperson of the Anti-Ragging Committee, Dr. Nusrat Jabeen, briefed the students about maintaining a safe and respectful environment on campus and anti-ragging regulations.
Dr. Ashok Sharma presented a comprehensive overview of the academic calendar, rules, and regulations for the MBBS Batch of 2024, ensuring the students were well-informed about their academic responsibilities and expectations.
Dr. Rachna Sabharwal conducted the entire proceedings of the Induction program, including oath ceremony, apron wearing and Stethoscope adorning ceremony and she also concluded the program with vote of thanks.
Following the formal induction, ceremony, the students were taken for an orientation tour of the Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry departments.
The two-week Foundation Course, which begins tomorrow, 15th October 2024, will continue the orientation process, providing essential training and guidance under the expert mentorship of the Medical Education Unit and the Curriculum Committee faculty members. This course is designed to equip the new students with a solid foundation as they embark on their medical education journey.
The Induction Ceremony successfully laid the groundwork for the professional and academic development of the MBBS Batch of 2024, reflecting the institution’s commitment to fostering excellence in medical education.
