HIRANAGAR: Government GLDM Degree College Hiranagar under the aegis of AKAM and IQAC organised a webinar on ” Fight Against Deadliest Diseases – Aarogya ka Abhishek” in collaboration with the NGO, Global Helping Hands, Jammu. The chief guest of the event was Nirdosh Bhola Vishen, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, while Kapil Kant Khajuria , Tehsildar, Relief Organisation Jammu was the guest of Honour. Col. Dr. Anurag Naik, MS DNB Surgery, Dr. Rajinder Kumar, Lecturer Department of Psychiatry, GMC Jammu, Dr. Satyanker Gupta, Medical Oncologist, ASCOMS Jammu, Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta, Professor and Head , Community Medicine, GMC Jammu and Oorvi Gupta, MBBS student, Lady Hardinge College, New Delhi were the guest speakers.
The webinar started with enchanting of Shiv Tandav Mantras by a young boy Naqsh Dhar, Silver Oak International School, Bangalore. Sangeeta from Army Public School applauded the efforts of Dr. Pragya Khanna , Principal G.L.D.M Degree College Hiranagar for organizing such events which provide opportunity to stake holders to talk about their work and raise awareness in the society .
Col. Dr. Anurag Naik talked about Trauma, the hidden epidemic, which is the biggest challenge for mankind and is fourth largest cause of death for people of 10-40 years age group. He emphasized on need of specialized trauma team and space in hospitals.
Dr Rajinder Kumar deliberated on suicide prevention and how people in general can help to curb this problem by just hearing someone out. He discussed the magnitude of problem in India and how India’s contribution to global suicide has steadily increased in recent years. Dr. Satyanker Gupta highlighted the latest information related to cancer. He talked about carcinogens and how a healthy life style contributes towards the prevention of cancer. Oorvi Gupta comprehensively elaborated on tuberculosis, its causes and prevention. Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the college presented the formal vote of thanks. She thanked the Chief Guest, Guest speakers, Global helping Hand (NGO), Faculty members of the college and all the participants for being a part of this webinar. She announced that these webinars are free and open to the public and the main motive towards the organization of these is to make students and people in general aware about the causes and prevention of these deadly diseases and to provide them an opportunity to interact with the renowned medicos and get insights on their health issues, if any. The webinar was attended by over 100 participants that included faculty, students and stakeholders the members from general community. The proceedings of the event were handled by Rekha Koul and Shraddha remained the meeting host for the event.
