JAMMU: Three boys and a girl drug-addict, who had gone to Ragoora area in Sidhra to purchase Chitta (drugs) for themselves were beaten up by locals and thereafter handed-over to police.
Expressing resentment over action of locals, who thrashed them for visiting their area to buy drugs, the drug-addicts blamed drug-peddlers for making them addicts. “Unfortunately, we have now become drug addicts and are unable to get out of it but it is surprising that no action is being taken against drug-peddlers who are responsible for our present condition,” they pleaded. Seeking Police action against all those who thrashed them, the addicts alleged that police is also interested in taking action only against drug-addicts and is least concerned about those who are spreading this poison in the society. “If action can be taken against addicts possessing a small quality of drugs for his or her use, then who is stopping Police to book those big fishes who are in possession of huge quantity of drugs. It clearly shows that Police is also hand in glove with drug-peddlers,” they alleged.
Taking cognizance of the matter, Police shifted drugs-addicts to rehabilitation centre Roop Nagar and rounded-up some locals for interrogation. Pertinent to mention here that the area is notorious for open sale of drugs and despite receiving complaints at almost regular basis, no action has been taken by the Police against drug-peddlers active in locality.
