NEW DELHI: Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor, Lt. Gen. (retd.) S.K Sinha called on Union Minister of State of Prime Minister Office (PMO), Dr Jitendra Singh here and held a meeting to discuss different issues related to Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast.
Pertinent to mention, 92-year old Gen. Sinha is a war veteran and a long time Kashmir observer, who first time came to the State of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 as an Indian Army Major and was associated with the State for the next over half-a-century till he relinquished office as Governor of the State in 2008, when N.N. Vohra
took over.
Gen. Sinha spoke about his conclusions and impressions about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, as it has evolved since independence. He also offered inputs from his experience as Governor of the State during some of the most difficult years.
In addition, he provided crucial inputs about the present political scenario in the State as well as his views regarding different political personalities who are currently at the centre-stage of the J&K dispensation.
From his long experience in having dealt with Northeast, Gen. Sinha provided to Dr Jitendra, a detailed perspective about how the events have evolved in Assam and the other North-Eastern States over the last 65 years.
He also offered his suggestions to address the apprehensions being faced in relation to various contradictions and diversities in the North-Eastern region.
Interestingly, Gen. Sinha also updated Dr Jitendra about his current subject of research, which was that of rediscovering the rich heritage of his hometown of Patna, originally known as Pataliputra which had been the capital of India for as many as 700 years.
Dr Singh appreciated Gen. Sinha’s erudition, commitment and passion for research, and said that the inputs provided by him are of immense value.
