JAMMU: Wrestlers from Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua excelled in the inter-college competition taking home the overall championship trophy. Back home the college team was given a warm welcome by the management and students.
Wrestlers from Kathua College obtained maximum 20 points out of six medals, including two gold and three silver.
Earlier, Lalu Din and Tanvir Singh won gold in 65 kg and 125 kg weight categories respectively to guide GDC Kathua to title win.
The second place was bagged by Post Graduate (PG) Departments of University with 16 points. Earlier, it was wrongly written in these columns that Government MAM College bags overall trophy due to oversight.
Later, welcoming winner team at Government Degree College, Kathua, Principal felicitated the players for their achievement. The college team won two gold, two silver and one bronze medal and stood winner with overall 20 points in the championship.
Lalu Din of B.A Part –I and Tanvir of B.A. Part – III won gold medal in 65kg and 125 Kg category, Ashiq Hussain and Amit Goutam of BA part – II and B.A part-III won silver medals each in the 75 Kg and 97 Kg categories and Shiva Kumar of B.SC part – II won bronze medals in 57 kg category respectively.
Principal Dr. B.L Gupta congratulated the team members for their stellar performance in wrestling championship and assured them of full support from college for better sports facilities.
He also appreciated the Physical Director Dr. Balbinder Singh and Team-Incharge Dr Singh for providing proper training and guidance to the players.
