JAMMU: Under the ideas @75 initiatives of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, to promote health and wellness through Ayush and in accordance to vision of G-20 themes of propagation of strengths of Ayush systems.

Directorate of Ayush J&K and Govt. College of Educate took a initiative to train the prospective teachers i.e. students of B.Ed and M.Ed courses in the strengths of Ayush system for self care and to develop health promoting schools, under this initiative, a 10 days, 30 days credit value added course started in GCoE with technical assistance from Directorate of Ayush J&K.
This exemplary value added course was conceived and implemented under the guidance of Dr. Mohan Singh Director Ayush J&K and Prof. Aekta Gupta, Prinicpal Govt. College of Education.
In all 30 students were enrolled in the course. The course was based on the learning by doing methodology in which prospective teachers were made aware about principles and practices of holistic health and healthy living i.e. Dincharya (Daily wellness regimen), Ritucharya (Seasonal Wellness Regimen), Sadvrutta (Health code of conduct), Home remedies, medicinal plants, Yoga, Naturopathy, Panchkarma etc. The students who were enrolled in the program were also imparted practical training of all the components of Ayush through onsite demonstrations at Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital and Ayush Health and Wellness centers.
On site training of school health program at AHWC Smailpur was also arranged so that prospective teachers get a hands on training on role of teachers in promotion of health of students.
At the end of course, an online test was also conducted in which all the students passed in flying colors. The module of course was designed by Prof. Rajinder Kaur from Govt. College of Education and Dr. Arun Gupta from Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu.
Today, a valedictory function was organized in the premises of Directorate of Ayush J&K, wherein the students of the course were given certificates of course completion.
The function was presided over by Prof. Aekta Gupta and Dr. Mohan Singh.
At the outset, rapporteur Sunakshi Rajput presented a detailed outline of the 10 days program.
In her address, Prof. Aekta Gupta emphasized that two departments must come-up with new skill based courses for the students and for faculty development program.
In his address, Dr. Mohan Singh highlighted under the Panch Prana of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we must rekindle the lost pride of our traditional wisdom, this initiative is an attempt to develop teachers as ambassador of health and wellness so that they learn the principles and practices of healthy living enshrined in the rich tradition of Ayush systems of health care and pass on the learning to their students and make student to learn the art and science of self health care. He emphasized that Health and Education are closely knit together and teachers must take the responsibility of making schools a setting of learning art of living. He congratulated the students and appreciated all those who are associated with the course.
The valedictory was also attended by the faculty members of Govt. College of Education Dr. Anju, Dr. Jyoti Parihar, Prof. Rajinder Kaur, Shalini Rana. The course was coordinated by Neeraj Verma, Shapia Shammem and Dr. Deep Bangotra.
