Gazzanfer flags off AIDS Awareness Rally in Jammu

JAMMU: Commissioner/Secretary, Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Gazzanfer Hussain on Monday flagged off ‘Run for AIDS Awareness’ rally to mark the World AIDS Day which started from Narwal Chowk and culminated at Zorawar Singh Auditorium, students of different Red Ribbon Clubs from various Degree Colleges participated.
Later, on a function was organised by the J and K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society (JKSACS) in collaboration with School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, SAKSHAM, GFATM, University of Jammu.
Commissioner/Secretary, Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Gazzanfer Hussain was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Secretary said that AIDS is one of the most challenging problem, which has adverse effect on socio-economic development of the society.
Highlighting the importance of the day, Gazzanffer said that the day is observed worldwide to renew our efforts to save the lives of lakhs of patients suffering from this disease and to take a pledge to work in solidarity to spread awareness and stop discrimination against people living with HIV, he added.
Gazzanffer appealed the masses particularly the youth to make concerted efforts on sustainable basis to combat HIV/Aids in the state.
Later, prizes were given away among the officers and officials of JKSACS for the job they performed during floods in Kashmir valley and for organising today’s rally.
Among others, Principal Government Medical College, Dr. Ghanshyam Dev Gupta, Director Health Services Jammu, Baljeet Singh Pathania, Project Director JKSACS, Dr. Mohan Singh, Director School of Hospitality and Tourism, Parkshat Singh besides HODs of Government Medical College were present on the occasion.
