Gaurav urges LG Sinha to champion Semiconductor Chip-making Project in Jammu region

JAMMU: Gaurav Gupta, former General Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu, has urged the LG Manoj Sinha to take up the matter with the central government to establish a chip-making (Semiconductor) project in the Jammu region.
In a statement issued here today, Gaurav commended the Modi Government for its approval of India’s chip-making ambitions, as evidenced by the greenlighting of three major projects worth Rs 1.26 trillion. The Tata group is set to lead two of these projects. Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd (TEPL) has been granted permission to build India’s first semiconductor fab in Gujarat’s Dholera, in collaboration with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (PSMC), with an investment of Rs 91,000 crore and CG Power, in partnership with Renesas Electronics Corporation, Japan, and Stars Microelectronics, Thailand, will set up a unit in Sanand, with an investment of Rs 7,600 crore. Additionally, Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd will establish the second plant in Morigaon, Assam, with an investment of $3.26 billion (Rs. 27,000 crore), focusing on advancing semiconductor packaging technologies for automotive, EVs, and consumer electronics segments.
Gaurav highlighted that the Modi Government, after the abrogation of Article 370, has been instrumental in transforming the union territory under the visionary leadership of PM Modi and LG Manoj Sinha by promising the establishment of major industries to bridge the development gap and tackle unemployment.
Gupta emphasized that the technological advancements of the future continue to shape our society, and the establishment of chip-making projects is crucial in this regard. He further highlighted the similarities in the terrain of Jammu region and North East Assam, making it imperative for the central government to consider establishing a semiconductor project in the Jammu region as well. He said that the Jammu region has great potential for industrial growth, and the establishment of a chip-making project would not only contribute to the technological prowess of the region but also create employment opportunities, attract investment, and further strengthen the development initiatives undertaken by the Modi Government.
He urged LG Manoj Sinha to immediately take up the matter with the central government and urge it to establish the Semiconductor chip-making plant in the Jammu.
