KATHUA: Beating Jammu District by 21 runs in the final, Ganderbal lifted the title trophy in the inter-district under-19 boys’ cricket tournament which was organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), here on Tuesday.
Hosted by district Samba, the competition held at twin venue, involving 16 teams from as many districts of the State on knock-out basis.
Earlier, in the title clash, Ganderbal won the toss and decided to bat first they made 150 runs for seven wickets in given 20 overs, which, in reply, Jammu boys could not chase and bundled out for 129 runs in 19 overs.
Waseem Ahmed played superb innings of 66 runs coming off 53 deliveries including four boundaries and one six. Shabir Ahmed and Umar Aziz contributed 18 and 15 runs respectively. For Jammu, Toyyab Farooq emerged as most successful bowler who took three wickets for 24 runs in four overs while Hitesh Singh bagged one.
Later, chasing a target of over seven-run per over, Jammu boys could not reach the total and the whole side was bundled out for 129 runs in 19 overs.
Hitesh made highest 31-ball 32 runs while Suranish Raina contributed 15-ball 18 runs to the total. Zaid and Waseem were most successful bowlers for Ganderbal, who shared two wickets each. Ashiq Hussain, Soliyash Rehman and Owais Rehman as also Umar Aziz shared apiece each.
For his all-round performance, Waseem declared Man of the Match. The Man of the Series title went to Sunil of district Udhampur. Sunil also adjudged best bowler for his eight wickets haul while best batsman title claimed by Shabir Ahmed of district Ganderbal, who made highest 88 runs.
In the final and valedictory function, District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary was Chief Guest, who gave away the winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. Principal Police Training College (PTC) Kathua, Sanjeev Khajuria was Guest of Honour.
