JAMMU: “Why is the Universe continuously expanding? Why are we made up of cells?”, asked Aadarshpreet from Grade 9E, two probing questions to the audience while conducting the morning assembly.
“Knowledge is the key to open the doors of unimaginable wonders of the worlds. Any fact is better established by two or three good testimonies than by a thousand arguments”, stated Adhyan Atri. “The internet is full of overwhelming amount of information. Some of the information is trust worthy and some of it is not. A lot many websites are full of people, voicing their opinions but not making any fact-based arguments. When a writer needs to craft credible argument or a detailed research paper, it can be difficult to find any valid facts”, he continued.
“Firstly, we all should know what facts really are. So, the basic definition of facts is that a fact is a reasonable and indisputable piece of information which is verifiably and objectively real we can use facts to enhance our information. While making an argument it is very effective choice to use facts. A single fact can help to prove the main point to the reader or listener”, added Jasmeet.
“For example, imagine a writer is writing an Essay in which they want to convince the reader to recycle more. The writer can say that recycling is important – though that is not enough to keep your point. Instead, they need to explain why recycling is important. It effectively makes a point it is helpful to use a fact about the power of recycling. There are so many facts around the Internet, but many of them are invalid, we should know how to identify valid facts”, he further added.
“There are some points we should keep in mind while searching for its validity: (i) a fact is a valid information (ii) a fact is proven to be correct (iii) a fact is based on indisputable experience or observation. Concluding the reflections on the topic, he said, “One should use facts while taking a stand or contributing to an argumentative essay. It will help us to make our point to the readers/ listeners crystal clear and it will also help us to enhance our knowledge which will be helpful to us in future”.
Teacher from the faculty of English Harneet Kour asked a few reason-based questions to children, namely, why is the coat of a Doctor White & of a lawyer Black? Why a School bus is painted yellow? Why there are a few coloured dots towards the bottom end of every page of a Newspaper? Students from the primary & Middle school classes responded to all the questions satisfactorily, which invited a big round of applause from the audience.
Principal JKPS Kunjwani Rajesh Rathore appreciated all the students and Teachers for conducting an informative & thought-provoking assembly. He requested teachers of Science to have personal copies of the books, titled, “Tell me Why?” Relevant scientific facts broaden the perception of students and foster in them the spirit of inquiry and explorations. He lauded the passionate endeavours of students, who are equipping themselves with the tools of learning under the guidance of their mentors. He commended them for adding more & more books to their personal library at home.
