UDHAMPUR: Taking serious view of ongoing demining of natural sources including sand and stone, district administration seized four tractors and trucks allegedly engaged in illegal trade during a raid in Birma Pul area of Udhampur on today.
According to reports, on the direction of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Dr Shahid Iqbal, a special team led by Tehsildar Udhampur along with Naib Tehsildar and police team officials on receiving a complaint, conducted raid in Birma Pul area of Udhampur, where some people were found engaged in demining the sand and stone illegally. Sources added that the owner and drivers of the vehicle involved in illegal mining after sensing the presence of administrative team fled from the spot leaving their vehicles at midway of riverbed.
Meanwhile appreciating the administrations move the residents of the nearby areas told media that despite the ban, mining was going unabated for past some time in Birma Pul area and its adjoining and outskirt areas of Udhampur.
