Former Sarpanch killed in south Kashmir

Srinagar: A former Sarpanch was shot dead in an encounter in south Kashmir on Thursday.
Conflicting reports are emerging over the killing of former Sarpanch, Sajad Malik. Quoting official sources, a news agency reported that Malik was killed by army after he allegedly tried to snatch a rifle from a Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel in Dooru in Anantnag. Meanwhile, another report claims that he was killed in an anti-militancy operation by army in the area. But, people alleged that Malik was in police custody for his alleged role in ‘pro-freedom’ activities though police has refuted these claims. Malik had dissociated himself from mainstream politics.
