JAMMU: Former Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbagh Singh is likely to be appointed Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
A close confident of the former DGP told STATE TIMES that the announcement with regard to the appointment of ‘Bhaiya’ (Dilbagh Singh) is expected in second week of the next month, immediately after the ongoing general election process ends. Credited with important assignments in the sensitive Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbagh Singh, having distinction of being the largest serving Director General of Police, has remained Senior Superintendent of Police Doda and Baramulla districts, DIG South Kashmir Range, Anantnag, DIG North Kashmir, Baramulla, DIG Jammu-Kathua Range besides Director, Special Security Group, J&K, which takes care of the security of the high risk protectees like Chief Minster and Ex-CMs.
Dilbagh Singh, a retired IPS officer of 1987 batch, will be second in the team of LG’s Advisors after Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, also a retired IPS officer of 1983 batch. Bhatnagar is currently holding the portfolios of Health & Medical Education, Public Works (R&B), Jal Shakti, Transport, Animal/ Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Revenue, School Education, Higher Education, Skill Development. Rai was appointed as Advisor to LG G C Murmu in January 2020 along with Baseer Khan and Farooq Khan, However, both of them relinquished their assignment later. Dilbagh Singh retired on October 31, 2023 and was accorded a mega farewell at the Srinagar police headquarters. His tenure as DGP witnessed momentous changes, including the scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on August 5-6, 2019.
