JAMMU: District Election Officer (DEO) Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu on Monday interacted with media persons and briefed them about election preparedness for forthcoming Assembly Elections in Jammu District.
He sought media cooperation for generating awareness among the voters especially young voters and female voters for maximum participation in the voting. He briefed them about the SVEEP programme of Election Commission of India.
Sahu stressed upon media to follow ECI guidelines on paid news and briefed about the functioning of MCC. He said that as media is the fourth pillar of democracy it is bound to give an objective coverage to the election campaign being held in the State and put up a true picture through its reports and editorials.
Among other things he also laid stress on effective implementation of modal code of conduct, expenditure monitoring mechanism provision for political parties’ meetings/rallies, preparations of EVMs, provision for use of vehicles in the rallies, preparation of polling station-wise route charts and various surveillance mechanism being adopted pursuant to laid down guidelines of election commission of India. He said special instructions have been issued to bankers to help candidates in opening fresh accounts for election and observed that no violation of MCC goes unreported.
He informed that 125 polling stations have been shifted as per contingency plan from border areas. Model polling stations with all basic amenities and waiting station are being set up to attract more voters to the polling stations from the comfort of their houses.
He said that that the guidelines of the Election Commission of India are being implemented in letter and spirit to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of elections.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Neeraj Kumar, Joint Director Information Jammu Smita Sethi and other officers of district administration were also present in the meeting.
