JAMMU: Five persons of a family were killed and two received injuries when the car they were travelling in rolled down at Barnai area late last night. The dead included a minor boy, his father, aunt and grandparents.
The deceased have been identified as Ajeet Kumar (32), son of Rattan Lal, Rattan Lal (52), son of Sai Dass, his wife Rattno Devi, child -Lovish, son of Ajeet Kumar and Vimla Devi (45), wife of Bansi Lal while injured have been identified as Pooja Kumari (28), wife of Ajeet Kumar and Sanchit (4) son of Ajeet Kumar all residents of Kangril.
“Accident took place when the family was returning home after attending a marriage function in a car bearing registration number JKO2Q-3458”, said police adding that when they reached near Barnai, the driver lost control over the wheels and the vehicle rolled down in the gorge.
Four persons died on-the-spot while three sustained injuries in the mishap, said police.
After getting the information, police reached the spot and shifted the injured to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) where Vimla succumbed to injuries during treatment.
Police said that after autopsy, all bodies were handed over to legal heirs for last rites and a case in this connection has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
Meanwhile, locals staged a protest near the accident site on Friday morning and blocked Jammu-Poonch National Highway. They alleged that the accident occurred due to ditch dug by the road construction agency claimed.
They said the ditch was left uncovered and no sign board was placed near it as preventive measure. Police and administration officials rushed to the spot for pacifying the protesters.
