Five arrested for betting on CSK, MI match

Pathankot:- The local police have arrested five persons who were allegedly placing bets on the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match played between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at Mumbai yesterday.

The police are also probing whether the arrested persons were in touch with other top bookies wanted by the police.

Those arrested have been identified as Nishant, Anil Sharma, Sahil Kumar, Ashwani Kumar and Rashpal Singh, all of whom hail from Jammu and Sujanpur (Punjab) areas.

According to SSP Rakesh Kaushal, on receipt of specific information that bets are being placed on the IPL match in one of the rooms of residence of prime accused Nishant, a raid was conducted last night.

“All the accused persons in the room were found to be involved in cricket betting and were watching live telecast of CSK vs Mumbai Indians match on television,” the SSP said today.

He said the police have seized Rs 2.70 lakh, 11 mobile phones and one LCD.

“The arrested persons are originally from Jammu and Sujanpur and they appear to be part of a larger betting syndicate. We are investigating about their clients and the monetary dealings which they have done so far,” the officer said, adding a case in this connection has been registered.
