JAMMU: Singh Cricket Club (SCC) Akhnoor won the inaugural match of the First State level Cricket Tournament for Chief Minister’s Cup, organised by J and K State Sports Council in collaboration with Country Cricket Academy at Bhalwal, near here on Friday.
Singh Club defeated Friends Bhalwal by a margin of 229 runs. Earlier, sailing on superb century from Sameer Khajuria, who made 110 runs, Singh Club set a target of 264 runs, which, in reply, Friends Bhalwal was bowled out for a meager total of 35 runs in 18 overs of the 50 overs aside game.
Besides Sameer, Sonu Manhas also batted well contributing 64 runs.
Batting second, Friends Bhalwal could not face the bowling wrath of Singh Club Akhnoor and lost quick wickets to pack in just 18 overs. From Singh Club, Sham Singh Langeh and Sunny shared three wickets each while Sunil took two and Rajinder one.
Later, Sameer Khajuria was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant century.
The opening game witnessed besides others by former Ranji cricketer, Ashwani Gupta and Sports Officer of the J and K State Sports Council, Ravi Singh.
