Financial literacy programme by NABARD

KISHTWAR: National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) on Tuesday organised two Financial Literacy Programmes in Kishtwar at Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and other at Pioneer Institute, Kishtwar. NABARD was represented by Adarsh Gupta (DDM, NABARD) and the guests on the occasions include Dinesh Gupta (LDO, RBI), Satish Gupta (LDM, SBI) along with others.
Both the programmes were focused on imparting financial education to student community to give them a view of the financial system of India, so that they get benefited by utilising the various financial services. They were informed and motivated to save, especially with bank, with reasons for; why to save, where to save, how to save. Further various saving schemes like saving accounts, recurring deposits, term deposits were explained to them for their benefits. Also, the recent programme of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna and its benefits like insurance, overdraft were explained. Besides these, various loan schemes were informed to them especially education loan so that no deserving student is left behind in education just because of lack of awareness about the financial support available from banks.
The security aspects of banking were keenly discussed keeping in view the rising number of financial frauds occurring on day to day basis. These included safety of ATM card, ATM pin, internet banking, avoiding fake calls/SMS offering free lotteries etc. Moreover, it was explained, how to detect fake currency notes so that poor people are not cheated of their hard earned money. Also various aspects of life insurance and general insurance were explained so that they get their lives, property, health insured to mitigate the adverse happenings.
The gatherings were motivated to take part in the financial services and contribute to the growth of the nation. All the dignitaries shared their knowledge with students and the programmes were closed with a vote of thanks from Adarsh Gupta (DDM, NABARD).
