JAMMU: In an unwavering commitment to eliminating the drug menace plaguing society, SP South Jammu Shaheen Waheed on Sunday conducted comprehensive awareness programme targeted at chemists across the region.
The initiative aimed to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among stakeholders to curb the illegal drug trade and promote a healthier community.
During these interactions, the police officials highlighted the importance of vigilance and responsible practices within the pharmaceutical community. They emphasized the significance of accurately verifying prescriptions, tracking the sale of specific medications prone to misuse, and reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies promptly.
The chemists were sensitised on the legal provisions which bar the retail sale of scheduled drugs without the prescription of a Registered Medical Practitioner.
The chemists were also asked to record the sale of such drugs in a separate register, giving the name and address of the prescriber, the name of the patient, the name of the drug and the quantity supplied.
Further, they were asked not to sell syringes without the necessary prescription.
SP City South Jammu, Shaheen Wahid, commended the chemists for their cooperation and stressed that their active involvement was essential in the fight against drug abuse.
She stated, “Chemists are the first line of defence in preventing the illegal distribution of drugs. By being vigilant and responsible, they can contribute significantly to making our society drug-free. We are here to support them and provide necessary resources to enhance their knowledge in identifying and reporting suspicious transactions.”
She said, “Our goal is to create a drug-free society, and this can only be achieved through collaborative efforts. We are here to provide guidance, answer any questions, and address concerns that chemists may have. Together, we can build a strong shield against the drug menace.”
