National Conference President and former J & K Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah has expressed concern over ‘deteriorating’ security situation in the state. Abdullah is a political adversary of both PDP and BJP. It is natural that he is unable to appreciate increased number of terrorists being neutralized in the changed political scenario after the formation of PDP-BJP combine and change of government at centre. The security situation in J & K has remarkably improved. His father Sheikh Abdullah, he himself and his son Omar Abdullah have ruled J & K for fairly good length of time. Congress has ruled the J & K in collusion with his party. During their tenure, cross-border terrorism was at its peak. Their period was marked by the beginning of terrorist attack, started claiming the lives of innocent civilians. Terrorists were successfully escaping to their hide-outs. There were isolated incidents when the attackers were nabbed and detained. Now the situation has changed. If one or two civilians or jawans are killed in the gun battle between army and terrorists, a large number of infiltrators and terrorists are killed. Pakistan-sponsored terrorism is continuing only to show that terrorists are not back on their foot. But the reality is different. Terrorists are suffering heavy casualty from the Indian army. Things would not have come to this pass if Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah had made sincere attempts to nip the terrorism in the bud. The recommendation of Abdullah to kneel at Pakistan in the name of taking that country into confidence even after Narndera Modi made vain bid for rapproachement when he took over as Prime Minister is not at all in good taste. If Farooq stops anti-national rhetorics like “PoK belongs to Pakistan”, “Pakistan possess nuclear bomb” and “Pakistan army is not wearing bangles”, it would be his great service to the nation.
