Family seeks arrest of in-laws;Alleges foul play in woman’s death; block NH for 2 days

JAMMU: Traffic remained standstill from Satwari Chowk to Jammu city on Sunday for more than two hours as the family of a woman, whose body was recovered from railway track at Vijaypur on Saturday staged a Dharna demanding registration of case against the in-laws of the woman.
As per the details, body of 24 years Ashu Devi wife of Balwinder Singh resident of Bagoona (Rajinder Pura) Vijaypur was found near railway line Rahya Morh on Saturday morning.
Family members of the woman along with the locals staged protest by placing her body at the main Chowk Satwari and demanded registration of the case against her in-laws as they suspect she was forced to commit suicide. They told that earlier also Asha was tortured by her in-laws for various demands. On receiving the information, MLA Sukhnandan Choudhary rushed to the spot and gave assurance of probe into the incident. After being assured, family lifted the Dharna.
“Asha Rani resident of Nand got married in Feb 2014 in Baguna village, of Vijaypur Tehsil, Jammu who belonged to a middle class family and her parents tried their best to meet every demand posed by Asha’s in laws. Slowly, their demands started escalating following non-fulfillment of which they started torturing her. Later, she was thrown out of her house in Dec 2015, when she was one month pregnant. In July 2015, Asha gave birth to twins” deceased’s relatives said adding that nobody from her in-laws family even visited to see the new-borns. She stayed at her paternal home, but her in-laws sought all means to torture her and her family in one way or the other.
Fed up of which, the family sought zhelp of Vijaypur MLA, almost eight days ago on 17th December 2016. MLA asked Asha’s family to send her to her in-laws and assured them her well-being.
Yesterday also family staged protest at Raya Morh to seek FIR against the in-laws.
