Faculty, officers urge JUNGEU to call-off strike

VC calls for collective effort to take JU to pinnacles of success

JAMMU: Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. R.D Sharma, on Monday called for a collective effort and team work to steer this institution of higher learning to the heights of success.
“We have already traversed a long way towards this destination and more is needed to be done to achieve overall excellence”, Prof Sharma said while chairing an interactive session with the faculty and officers of the University of Jammu here this evening.
The meeting was called to review the functioning of the university, especially to take stock of working of the academic and administrative system and other activities going on in the main campus and the offsite campuses. Besides these various other issues pertaining to further streamlining the functioning of the university were also discussed along with the ongoing token strike by the JUNGEU of the university.
Prof Sharma informed the participants about all the developments that had taken place during the course of interactions with the office bearers of the JUNGEU and said that most of the demands of the JUNGEU have been considered and accepted and the Presidents of the JUTA, JUOWA and JUNTEU had also requested the President, JUNGEU to call off the strike.
The participants unanimously appealed to the striking employees to resume their duties since most of their demands have been acceded to and the pending demands shall be placed and vigorously pursued with the competent bodies. “In fact the pending demands are under active consideration”, they observed. “Therefore, the agitating employees should withdraw the strike in the interest of the university in general and students in particular as the academic session is about to begin”, the participants urged the striking employees.
Prof. R.D Sharma said that the university is facing many challenges and these can be met with fortitude only when “all of us work with a missionary spirit, devotion and dedication”.
Referring to the highest standards maintained by the University of Jammu, the Vice Chancellor complimented the faculty, officers, staff and all those working in the institution. “It is because of your tireless and hard work that we have registered enviable achievements in all the sectors”, he said and hoped the entire team would continue to put in their best for making University of Jammu an inspiring institution in the country.
During the course of interaction, Prof. Sharma also complemented Prof. Satnam Kour for being nominated as the first female Dean Students Welfare of the University of Jammu, Dr. Parmil Kumar as New Assistant Dean, Students Welfare, Prof. Arvind Jasrotia for his assignment as Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, Prof. Sundeep Pandita as Co- Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee. Prof. Sharma said that the scope of the Department of Students Welfare has increased manifold and, therefore, the new dean has to make it more vibrant with the new team and wished them all success for their assignments.
