Dear Editor,
Out of 700 universities and 36,000 affiliated colleges enrolling nearly 30 million students, even a single university does not figure in the top 200 universities in the world in terms of quality education. Even institutions of international repute like IITs and IIMs do not figure in the list. More than 30 per cent faculty positions are lying vacant in most of the departments of the IITs in India. About 54 per cent posts of faculties are lying vacant in the colleges and universities. In such a situation, how one can expect that our quality education would meet international standards? The Central Government should take necessary steps in this direction so that our next generation may not suffer.
