During the programme, the slum dwellers were given orientation regarding various causes of HIV AIDS such as infected body fluids, infected needles or through broken skin. They were also made aware of myths and misconceptions regarding HIV AIDS. Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER appreciated the efforts of the Extension Activities Unit towards sensitising the slum dwellers towards HIV AIDS and its prevention.
Earlier, a group of 15 students of Extension Unit displayed the posters made by them on the topic highlighting symptoms, causes, treatment and preventions regarding the disease. The students of the unit also emphasised on the various services a person can go for an HIV test like sexual health clinic, general practitioners or private clinics.
A test for HIV can be done either using a saliva sample or a blood-sample. Students laid stress on the need to become aware medically, socially and legally to overcome the issues related to HIV AIDS.
