Excise sleuths destroy 400 kg Lahan, one held

JAMMU: In order to curb the menace of illicit distillation of liquor and illegal smuggling of liquor from other states, Excise Department destroyed over 400 Kg Lahan, 10 bottles of illicit liquor and arrested one woman while conducting raids. Under the supervision of Excise Commissioner, J and K, T. Angchuk and Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Jammu, Nagendra Singh Jamwal , excise teams led by ETO, City Excise Range South Jammu, Naeem Mughal and ETO, Eradication Wing Jammu, Suresh Sharma assisted by Inspector Ritesh Gupta and Sub Inspectors Manvinder Pal Singh and Sandeep Kumar conducted a series of raids in Bishnah and RS Pura Excise Ranges at villages Deoli, Makhanpur, Salehar, Phinder, Laswara, Kothey Bulandey, Kotli Charkan and Tara Chak.
During the course of raids, one person namely Pooja Devi wife of Kewal Krishan, resident of
Kotli Charkan was arrested and booked under Section 48 of J and K Excise Act 1958.
The teams also recovered four bottles of illicit liquor from her possession. Besides this, one working still, 400 kg (approx) of Lahan and six bottles of illicit liquor made from Lahan were also recovered by the raiding team from the State land and destroyed on the spot.
