JAMMU: Continuing with their efforts to check the entry of banned items into the State and acting under the guidance of T. Angchok, Excise Commissioner, J and K, Excise Department on Wednesday foiled a major bid to smuggle polythene with a seizure of 14,440 kgs of polythene from a truck at Toll Post Lakhanpur.
According to reports, a truck bearing registration No.HR63A-1007 reported at the Toll Post for clearance on Wednesday. As per the documents, the vehicle was carrying cotton seed cake loaded through New Moga Amritsar Roadway Shop No 15 Palla Morh Old GTK Road Alipur Delhi vide GR No 1314 dated 15th February and consigned by M/s SA Udyog Delhi to M/s Vijay Kumar Suresh Kumar, Jammu. However, on physical checking, it was found that the truck was loaded with 14,440 kgs of polythene. The evaders tried to import banned polythene by importing the same in the garb of cotton seed cake. The vehicle along with seized polythene was handed over to the Pollution Control Board for further action under relevant sections.
The whole operation was conducted by the Excise and Taxation Officer, Vikas Anand, Excise Inspectors Anmolak Singh and Anil Kumar, Sub-Inspector, Bhagwan Dass and Excise Guard Rajinder Kumar.
Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur appreciated the efforts of the staff of the Toll Post Lakhanpur in foiling the attempt to smuggle banned item and enjoined them to work with more zeal and dedication to thwart the nefarious designs of smugglers.
