Excise Deptt foils bid to smuggle IMFL

LAKHANPUR: Ongoing with their efforts to curb tax evasion, the officials of Excise Department at Toll Post, Lakhanpur detected 11 bottles of IMFL (750ml each) from a private car (DL3CDR-3476) that was being illegally imported into State.
On physical checking of the Vehicle, it was found to be concealing 11 bottles of IMFL (Blender’s Pride) in the personal belongings. These bottles have been blended and bottled by Pernod Ricard India Private Limited at NV Distilleries Limited Village Badhali Nariangarh Kalpi, Haryana. The driver along with vehicle and IMFL has been handed over to Excise and Taxation Officer Kathua Range, Kathua for further necessary action under the Excise Act.
It is pertinent to mention that the intensified checking of private cars at the entry point of the State has lead to detection of 229 bottles of IMFL in 7 cases during the month of February. There has been an appreciable increase in realisation of penalty/ fine during the month of February 2016 and an amount of Rs. 5,27,975 has been realised on this account against Rs. 2,57,550 during the corresponding month of previous year. The total penalty/ fine of Rs. 30,20,077 has been realised during the current financial year, ending February, as against Rs. 22,90,498 during the previous year.
