‘Excise Department achieves record growth of 23 pc in April 2016’

JAMMU: The Excise Commissioner, J and K, Tsering Angchuk took the revenue review meeting of various officers of Excise and Taxation Department for the month of April here in the Excise and Taxation Complex on Monday.
The over-all growth scenario of the revenue receipts of the department for the month of April was discussed threadbare and examined critically. It was noticed in the meeting that the revenue realization of the department for the month of April 2016 is going upward direction viz-a-viz revenue realised during April 2015. The total revenue realised by the Excise Department during the month of April2016 has been recorded to the tune of Rs. 86.66 crores in comparison to Rs 70.42 crores realised during April 2015, with a growth of 23 per cent. The total excise revenue has shown a growth of 32 per cent, the toll revenue 18.10 per cent, while as the distillery revenue has shown a growth of 13.51 per cent.
On the front of eradication and enforcement activity, the Excise Commissioner appreciated the comprehensive drive launched by the Excise sleuths to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor/ willow clefts, illicit distillation of liqour and other violations of the J and K Excise Act, 1958. It was appreciated by the Excise Commissioner, J and K that during April 2016, 4,300 willow clefts were seized by the Excsie sleuths at Lakhanpur and 11,870 Kg of Lahan destroyed by the excise sleuths in all Excise Ranges of Jammu division especially district Kathua.
In Kashmir Division a massive drive has been launched by the Excise Department to destroy the illegal poppy crop and the same has been destroyed on more than 593 Kanals of land.
It was appreciated that for the first time in Jammu division in district Kishtwar poppy cultivation has been destroyed by the excise sleuths on 6.5 Kanals of land. Raids have been conducted in the entire Jammu division by the excise sleuths to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor from other states, illicit distillation of liquor and other violations.
In the process arrest of eleven persons has been made and cases have been lodged in various Courts of Law against the accused persons for illicit distillation of liquor and other ancillary offences. During the meeting, all the officers of the department were impressed towards day and night strict vigil to improve revenue realisation and work hard to generate revenue for the State.
