JAMMU: Excise Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir T. Angchuk took Revenue Review Meeting of various offices of Excise and Taxation Department for the month of October in the Excise and Taxation Complex, Jammu. The over-all growth scenario of the revenue receipts of the Excise Department for the month of June was also discussed threadbare viz a viz targets fixed. On the front of Eradication and Enforcement activity, the Excise Commissioner appreciated the comprehensive drive launched by the Excise Department in Jammu division to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor, illicit distillation and other violations of the J&K Excise Act, 1958. It was appreciated by the Excise Commissioner, J&K that during the month of October, more than 8000 Kgs of Lahan, meant for manufacturing illicit liquor, has been destroyed in the entire Jammu division by the Excise sleuths, who have conducted series of surprise raids in various areas to arrest the menace of illicit distillation. The efforts made by the field functionaries towards eradication of illicit distillation were highly appreciated by the Excise Commissioner especially the efforts made by Sandeep Gupta, ETO, Kathua Excise Range and his team, who along with the Lakhanpur Excise staff recently confiscated a vehicle carrying Punjab bound liquor en-route to J&K for illegal sale. At Toll Post Lakhanpur, the Excise sleuths had put extra efforts to arrest the smuggling and import/export of banned items. In the process, 33 toll evasion cases were detected during the month of October besides confiscation of 8,575 willow clefts at Lakhanpur Toll Post. The efforts made by the Excise staff at Toll Post Lakhanpur to ensure smooth flow of traffic to the State, after the government of India started the process of demonetisation of currency, was highly appreciated. It was noted that right now whole process of traffic flow is smooth at Lakhanpur Toll Plaza and for that the department is grateful to the timely support from J&K Bank, local administration and especially J&K Police. In Kashmir valley, massive action of Bhang destruction was started and completed by the Excise Department Kashmir till October 2016. In the process Bhang on 180 Kanals of land was destroyed during the month of October besides destruction of poppy on 2873 Kanals of land up to October end. During the meeting, all the officers of the Excise Department, were exhorted and impressed by the Excise Commissioner, J&K towards day and night strict vigil to improve revenue realisation during the current fiscal and work hard to generate revenue for the State. All the Deputy Excise Commissioners and Excise and Taxation Officers were present in the meeting.
