Eradication of corruption, infrastructure development imperative for tourism growth: Mankotia

UDHAMPUR: “Eradicating the menace of corruption and building appropriate infrastructure in the State for sustainable tourism growth and development” said JKNPP State President Balwant Singh Mankotia while speaking in a valedictory function of a seminar on ‘Economic issues in J and K’ held in Udhampur Campus of University of Jammu on Wednesday.
Mankotia who was invited as a Chief Guest in the function maintained that J and K State is mainly dependent on tourism economy which has been blessed with extraordinary natural topography encompassing snow capped mountains, dense forests, picturesque meadows and valleys, plethora of fauna and flora apart from historical monuments and shrines. The State especially the Jammu region has a vast tourism potential which can be developed into an ideal destination for cultural, leisure, pilgrimage and wildlife tourism.
He added that J and K has been bearing the brunt of the social evils like insurgency and corruption with the latter spreading its roots in every nook and corner of the State. The poor rural infrastructure and the dilapidated quality of road connectivity in the villages are also responsible for the lack of tourism growth in the region.
Mankotia said that the present government of should take necessary steps to eradicate corruption from the State and focus on developing adequate infrastructure to promote tourism and allied sectors.
