JAMMU: Evacuee Property Tenants Welfare Society (EPTWS) urged the State Coalition Government to bring the Bill in coming budget session to deliberate upon the matter of ownership right to the EP tenants.
Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Jyoti Vaid, President of the Society, said that during the Assembly election 2014 all parties had assured that when they come in power the Department of Custodian will be abolished.
After election, she said, after the elapse of one year none of the Member Parliament or Member Legislative Assembly raised the point in the Assembly session held in Kashmir and Jammu over this issue.
“The society hoped that the present government will extend full support in mitigating the problems of the tenants but it seems that it has done nothing like the previous government,” General Secretary, Mohammad Shariff said.
“The department has not framed any policy for agreement, enhancement of rent and grant of permission to intent to upgrade their houses,” he said.
Jyoti also stressed that the policy in operation imposed harshly by the previous government in charging premium from 8 per cent to 70 per cent from the poor tenants be repealed and relief extended to the tenants. If the government fails to redress the genuine demands of the tenants, she said, the tenants will come out in the streets and launch a strong agitation against the department.
Suraj Prakash Sharma, Chowdhary Tej Ram, Ramesh Soodan, Jamshed, Parvinder Kour, Bindu Sharma, Sunny Chibber, Amit Luthra, Rajesh Kalra, Sureshtha Devi, Kanta Devi, Shankey Soodan, Davinder Singh and Sushant Gupta were also present in the press conference.
