JAMMU: Alleging that building and construction workers are neglected by the ruling State Coalition Government, Bhawan Nirman Mazdoor Sangh (BNMS), Jammu, a unit of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, asked the government to enforce all welfare schemes properly in their favour forthwith.
Addressing a one day conference here on Thursday, Sagar Chand President BNMS said that Jammu and Kashmir Workers Welfare Board is not functioning properly as at present board has not been constituted under law.
“There is no workers’ representative in the present board as per the Act and only government officials have been nominated,” he said and demanded from government to reconstitute the board with the representation of Central Labour Organisation.
He further demanded that pension scheme be introduced for building construction workers, compensation to unregistered building construction workers if they meet with an accident while working on site, provision in the registration form for adding nomination as in case of death, providing sheds, toilets and drinking water at the places where workers gather in the morning for waiting for work, etc.
He asked government to accept all these demands failing which agitation will be started against the administration.
Addressing the workers, Lakshman Ravinder Singh, Subash Verma and Ashok Choudhary called upon them to remain united to get proper benefits from the Central as well as State Government schemes and protect their rights with strong unity.
Harbans Choudhary and Chanan Singh Toor also spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, election of the new body was also held and new executive body was constituted unanimously with Sagar Chand as President Ashok Choudhary, Balwant Raj, Yash Pal and Fatha Ram as Vice Presidents while Harbans Choudhary as General Secretary, Dev Parkash, Roop Lal and Tanveer Ahmed Dar as Secretaries and Chanan Singh Toor as Cashier.
