JAMMU: On the directions of Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Manmohan Singh and under the supervision of Joint Commissioner (A) R.S Jamwal (KAS) deployed both men and machinery early in the morning for removing blockades in trouble shooting Nallahs of Jammu city to avoid any kind of flash flood to heavy rains.
Joint Commissioner (A) R.S Jamwal said that the whole men and machinery reported on job at 5:00AM and dispatched to various locations.
The quick reaction teams cleared many blockades in various nallahs which has safe guarded the various areas from flooding, he added.
Jamwal maintained that JMC has made every attempt to desilt the Nallahs upto bed level and has been successful in desilting process but at few places where encroachments on Nallahs were made, it was not possible for JMC to clear the bottle necks as there were no proper access as for deployment of heavy machinery at these points.
The encroachment on the side of nallah is proving major problem for the JMC staff to clear the blockades, he said.
Many trouble shooting Nallahs like Landoi Choi passing through Sector 4, Kunj Vihar, Nanak Nagar, Kabir Colony Nallah, Durga Nagar Nallah, Shastri Nagar Nallah etc does not witness any kind of major overflow unlike last year monsoon 2015, he added.
It is pertinent to mention that JMC has desilted all the nallahs well before the onset of monsoon season and has removed garbage from these Nallahs but due to sudden heavy rains water level in nallahs increased tremendously resulting in overflow at some places like Nanak Nagar, Krishna Nagar, etc.
At various places the people of the localities who has helped the JMC during the desilting operation has expressed gratitude to the JMC staff for timely help for clearing the blockades.
