SRINAGAR: Minister for Social Welfare, Sajjad Gani Lone on Thursday said that efforts are afoot for implementation of Jammu and Kashmir Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (JKMWPSC) Act 2014.
Replying to a question of Naresh Kumar Gupta in the Legislative Assembly, the minister said the concept of old age homes are new
phenomenon in our State and every section of the society has to evince interest in taking care of them.
He said that there is provision for establishment of 2 old age homes by the government in each division of the state.
He said there are 4 old age homes in Jammu division run by NGOs with total intake capacity of 245 inmates.
The minister said there is a provision of constitution of State Council and District Committees of senior citizens in the JKMWPSC Rules, 2016 and are under active consideration of the government.
