Educational institutions roped in for voter awareness

JAMMU: To increase the voters’ participation in low turnout polling areas in urban areas of Jammu District, a series of awareness programme are being conducted in major educational institutions as per directions of District Election Officer Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu.

Students are being sensitized to persuade their parents to cast their vote on 20th December, 2014.   Sankalp Patras are being distributed through educational institutional and students are urge to get those Sankalp Patras signed by their parents pledging that their cast their vote on 20th December, 2014.

Nearly one lakh Sankalp Patras have been distributed through students so far and signed Sankalp Patras are also being returned to the SVEEP office Jammu.

A similar programme was held at St. Marry Presentation Convent School Gandhi Nagar Jammu in which large number of students participated.

Principal Convent School Sister Rosamma along with all the staff members distributed thousands of Sankalp Patras to among the students and urge them to return of duly signed Sankalp Patras back within 2 days. She also deliberated upon the importance of voting and said that success of democracy lies in maximum electoral participation.

Anil Verma from District SVEEP team (ACD Office Jammu) educated the students about the election process which is fundamental part of a true democracy.

Democracy Express, specially designed voter awareness van was also a great attraction for the students who took keen interest on the slogan/banners on the Democracy Express were also imparted hand of training on EVM’s. Presentation Covent School also presented colorful cultural bonanza on the occasion depicting importance of voting for strengthening democracy.
