ECI orders special summary revision of electoral rolls

SRINAGAR: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered special summary revision of photo electoral rolls in all Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies in the State.
According to a notification issued on Tuesday by Chief Electoral Officer J and K, Shantmanu, the draft publication of electoral rolls would be conducted on 15th September, 2016, whereas period of filing of claims and objections would be from 15th September to 14th October, 2016.
All individuals who are 18 years of age or above as on 1st January, 2017 can get their names enrolled in the electoral rolls by filing Form 6, alongwith two coloured photographs for getting “Electors Photo Identity Card” (EPIC).
Reading of relevant part/section of photo electoral rolls in Gram Sabha/local bodies, and RWA meeting and verification of names would be conducted from 16th September to 30th October, 2016.
Special campaign with booth level agents of political parties for receiving claims and objections would be conducted from 18th September to 9th October, 2016, says the notification.
Meanwhile disposal of claims and objections would be done on 16th October, 2016, while updating the database, merging of photographs, updating the control tables and preparation and printing of Supplementary lists would be done on 15th December, 2016.
Final publication of electoral rolls would be done next year on 5th January, reads the notification.
Photo Electoral Rolls 2016 would be available at District headquarters/Tehsil Offices/Offices of Srinagar and Jammu Municipal Corporations/Booth Level Officers, and Polling Station level and on the website of the Chief Electoral Officer, J and K (http;//ceojk.nic.in) for the information of all concerned. Furthermore the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (Migrant) in Delhi and Jammu shall receive the claims and objections from the Kashmiri Migrants living within their jurisdiction.
