Dy Mayor directs PHE authorities for better water supply in affected areas

JAMMU: In a bid to address the concerns of the water supply for Jammu, Deputy Mayor Jammu Baldev Singh Billawaria has directed the PHE authorities for the better water supply in badly affected areas in Jammu.

Addressing a press conference, Deputy Mayor highlighted the ongoing development works including major development works for water supply systems for future doorstep of water supply.
Billawaria said that the Municipal Corporation is taking strict steps to address the water supply concerns in Jammu city and expressed his commitment to resolving the water supply issues promptly.
Highlighting the major development works for water supply systems, Deputy Mayor Jammu, Baldev Singh Billawaria said that about 60 crores is being spent for new tubewells and their improvement.
Deputy Mayor Jammu Baldev Singh Billawaria said that under UT CAPEX Rs. 6.5 crore will be spent for tubewells at Greater Kailash for which tendering is under process. Tubewell at Deeli with a capacity of 2 Lacs gallon of water supply which can boost the water supply of the adjoining area of Deeli.
In Sainik Colony Sec. D, E & F ongoing work of tubewell is in progress with the capacity of 30 thousand gallon of water in Sector C tubewell is already installed. At Shastri Nagar Rs. 40.00 Lacs area proposed for the improvement of the water supply system. In Channi Himmat tube well is drilled to improve the water supply of Sanjay Nagar area, Bhor Camp area and also a water distribution system is also proposed in these areas according to the need of water supply.
He directed PHE authorities to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the water supply infrastructure across Jammu. Special attention will be given to areas that have been experiencing prolonged water shortages.
He also said Immediate repair and maintenance work will be carried out on water supply pipelines and related infrastructure. Any leaks or damages that contribute to water loss will be addressed promptly, he added.
To foster a culture of responsible water usage and conservation, Billawaria has instructed the PHE Authorities to launch an extensive awareness campaign.
The campaign will educate citizens about water-saving practices and the significance of preserving this precious resource.
The Deputy Mayor strongly believes that community participation is vital in tackling water supply challenges effectively. He has urged local residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to collaborate with the PHE Authorities and actively participate in water conservation efforts.
To ensure a transparent approach, the Deputy Mayor has called for regular updates from the PHE Authorities on the progress made in addressing the water supply concerns. Accountability will be a key focus throughout the implementation process.
The Deputy Mayor also urged the citizens of Jammu to report any water-related issues they encounter promptly to the PHE officers and to actively participate in water conservation initiatives.
