JAMMU: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has made senior athlete from J&K and former international wrestler, Dushyant Sharma part of the three-member Indian delegation to the Paris Olympics scheduled to take place from July 29 to August 10.
Dushyant Sharma, SSP, presently posted at PTTI Vijaypur, has been picked from J&K considering his experience and international exposure. Now, he shall be part of the delegation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Observers Programs during Olympic Games.
The Programs is a unique opportunity that will allow the delegation to gain first-hand experience and knowledge about the intricacies involved in the planning, organization and execution of the Olympic Games.
“Under the leadership of Dr PT Usha, president, the IOA gears up for a significant opportunity to enhance their understanding and preparations for hosting future Olympic Games in India. Moreover, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has already announced plans to host Olympics in 2036 on Indian soil showcasing its commitment to sports and its future,” Dushyant Sharma said.
Dushyant observed that his participation will significantly contribute to strategic objectives, particularly in areas related to security and operational management as well his presence will also facilitate the development of a robust framework for managing large-scale international events, aligning with global standards.
Dushyant Sharma has represented India National and international stage winning a Bronze medal in 1993 in the Takti World Wrestling Championship held at Afsaan in Iran. Later, he has accompanied Indian wrestling teams as team leader in various Wrestling Championship including Commonwealth Games held at Melbourne, Australia in 2011 and in Vencanuer.
Dushyant has a long list of events he participated as a leading Indian wrestler thus earned a name for the country and the UT of J&K.
Guru Hargovind Wrestling Championship held at Canada in 2011, London Olympic Games in 2012, DavaScheltz International Wrestling Championship held at Colorado Spring USA in the year 2014. He also accompanied as Team Leader with Indian Senior Women Wrestling Team for 5 th Annual Benefit & International Wrestling Competition held at Los Angeles California USA In 2019,Dushyant was deputed as Chef-D-Mission of Indian contingent in the 13th South Asian Games held at Kathmandu Nepal.
Meanwhile, Director General of J&K Police, R.R Swain termed the selection as a honour for entire J&K Police as well as for UT of J&K. He wished the officer a purposeful stay at Paris in France.
