DSW JU celebrates ‘Swachhta Diwas’

JAMMU: Venerating Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of cleanliness as a virtue, Department of Students Welfare (DSW), University of Jammu (JU) celebrated Rashtriya Swachhta Diwas with the presentation of a short play ‘Safai Hum Karenge’ for the hostlers at Priyadarshni Hostel Premises. The play was written and directed by Sumeet Sharma and was witnessed by a sizeable gathering which included Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Satnam Kour, Provost Girls Hostels, Prof Versha Mehta, Resident Warden of the Hostel, Dr. Sarita Sood, Drama Instructor, Sumeet Sharma and hostel boarders.
Prof Satnam Kour informed that recently the University of Jammu had celebrated Swachhta Pakhwada which was initiated by The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India across the country from September 1 to 15, 2017, to spread awareness of and evoke sensitivity to the virtues of sanitation and cleanliness and help the government in successfully achieving the initiative of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which was also mentioned by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “A clean India would be the best tribute India could pay to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150 birth anniversary in 2019,” at the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission at Rajpath in New Delhi on 2nd October 2014.
She also delivered a precise lecture on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi Prof. Versha Mehta, Provost Hostels, promised further such collaborations for the holistic personality development of the hostel boarders as she aptly termed hostel to be a home away from the home and taking message from the play, its boarders shall maintain its cleanliness as if it is their own home.
The play ‘Safai Hum Karenge’ highlighted our habit to tolerate untidiness in a very satirical manner. Those who acted in the play include Sanyam Pandoh, Puneet Kour, Hemant Magotra, Tushar Chopra, Rajat Salgotra, Sameena Kousar and Pratibha Heer. The event was coordinated by Dr. Sarita Sood and Sumeet Sharma.
